Val is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jackie Martin and their four children, Chad Martin, Julian Martin, Ashley Martin, and Tiana Martin; Godson, Jared Erskine; and siblings, Samuel and Ronald Martin, and Sonya Martin-Harper.

Val graduated from John Adams High School in 1975 and attended the University of Nebraska and Valparaiso University.

Val was a Veteran who served his country in the Army and worked at the United States Postal Service for 15 years.

He was most passionate about providing for his family.
