William T. “Terry” Engeman
October 7, 1937 ~ August 10, 2015
 
William T. “Terry” Engeman, 77, residing in South Bend, returned to the loving arms of God at 4:20 pm Monday, August 10, 2015. He was born October 7, 1937 in Ft. Wayne, IN to the late Urban “Whitey” and Edista (Barker) Engeman.
 
On November 23, 1961 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw, IN, Terry married Susan Jane Van Osdol, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of 53 years, he is survived by his daughter, Teresa (Kevin) Lennon of Indianapolis; sons, Andrew Engeman of Los Angeles, CA and Jim (Laura) Engeman of Chicago, IL; and six grandchildren, Luke, Cal, Colleen, Madelyn, Piercen and Katherine.
 
Terry earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the Jordan College of Music at Butler University in Indianapolis. He then attended Indiana University South Bend and Ball State University in Muncie, from which he earned his Master’s Degree. He was a long-time educator and band director for South Bend Community Schools for 35 years before retiring. Prior to coming to South Bend, Terry taught ten years in the Catholic schools in Ft. Wayne. Music was Terry’s passion. He was a well respected percussionist, performing for the South Bend Symphony, the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic and the South Bend Pops. Terry served as president of the South Bend Musicians Union. He also enjoyed playing at the South Bend Civic Theatre, as well as the Round Barn Theater at Amish Acres. Terry also taught music privately to many grade school, high school and college students. He was a long time member of St. Therese, Little Flower Catholic Church.
 
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, August 14, 2015 in St. Therese, Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood Road, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 7:00 pm Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where a prayer service will be held at 4:30 pm. Friends may also visit one hour prior to mass on Friday in the church.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to St. Therese, Little Flower Catholic Church or the Food Pantry at the church. Online condolences may be left for the Engeman family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
