SOUTH BEND - In loving memory of Michael Barnes, who was reunited with the Lord on August 6, 2013. Michael passed away in Oklahoma City, OK. Michael was the second child born to the union of Joseph and Grace Barnes on March 2, 1957 in South Bend, Indiana. He is preceded to heaven by his parents. He attended Mount Olive Baptist Church during his formal years where his mother Grace Barnes was a very active member, and later attended Pentecostal Church of God and Christ while in South Bend, Indiana.

He attended South Bend Community Schools for his formal education. He graduated from John Adams High School in 1976. He attended Ivy Tech for Automotive Mechanics after high school.

He was employed by Dana Corporation in Mishawaka, Indiana until 2008 when the company relocated to Oklahoma City, OK. In 2008, Michael and his wife Carolyn relocated to Oklahoma City, OK. The company's new name was Affienain Oklahoma City, OK. Michael was employed there as a forklift driver until his death.

Michael loved cars, especially fast cars. He enjoyed working on cars; and he was a skilled driver. He could take an older car and fix it up to run just like a brand new one. He could fix anything. He was very mechanically inclined. Many people called upon him to repair just about anything. Michael loved his family and he loved all of his children.

Michael married Carolyn Womack in South Bend, Indiana in 1987; from that union came Rakim and Rashida, and Bakari. He is survived by his three sons, Michael, Rakim and Bakari; two daughters, Michelle Swanson, and Rashida; stepdaughter, Joanna Fowler; two sons-in-law, Ben Swanson Jr., and Fowler; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Jesse Barnes JC (Mae Clara), and Joseph Barnes Jr. (Connie), and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He will be missed by his family, friends and all who were blessed to have known him.

Funeral services for Mr. Michael Barnes will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, August 19, 2013 at Pentecostal Cathedral COGIC with burial following at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Viewing will occur one hour prior to services. ALFORD'S MORTUARY has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.
