MISHAWAKA - Bernard B. Bartell, 82, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away at 6:20 a.m. on Monday, March 24, in Southfield Village. Bernie was born on July 11, 1925, in Dowagiac, Michigan, to Barney and Edna (Steinmann) Bartell, who preceded him in death.

On November 18, 1950, Bernie married Bobbie M. Wilbanks, who survives him along with three daughters, Sheila Bartell of South Bend, Sheri (Mike) Lebiedzinski of Mishawaka and Lori Alkire of South Bend; three sons, Patrick (Keller) Bartell of Mishawaka, Terry (Dee) Bartell of Crawfordsville and Michael Bartell of South Bend. Also surviving him are 13 grandchildren, Taylor, Courtney, Casey, Jessica, Kylie, Michael, Erika, Joshua, David, Justin, Sara, Chad and Zeke; two great-grandchildren, Rylie and Cody; three sisters, Beryl (Art) Guzowski of South Bend, Beverly (Larry) Steele of South Bend and Audrey (Jack) Spergl of Hilton Head, SC; and a brother, Ken (Corrie) Bartell of Elkhart.

Bernie retired as a plumber and pipefitter for Local #172. He was a member of Hilltop Lutheran Church. Bernie honorably served in the Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946.

He was also a graduate of South Bend John Adams High School.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 28, in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 1827 E. Ireland Road, South Bend. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center of St. Joseph County or to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. For those unable to attend the funeral liturgy, condolences to the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
