LLOYD CABINESS

BREMEN - Lloyd E. Cabiness, 66, of Bremen, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, January 30, 2012 at Hospice House in Elkhart. He was born October 17, 1945 in Logansport to Robert and Marcella (Moore) Cabiness.

Lloyd married Kathleen Mcveigh Griffin on July 11, 1992 in Bremen at the Church of the Brethren.

Mr. Cabiness graduated from Washington Township High School and later from Manchester College in 1967.

In 1967, he began his teaching career at W.C. Mills Elementary School, Wabash, until accepting a principal's position at Wabash in 1973. Lloyd served as a principal for the next 22 years in Richmond and Monon, Indiana and then for 19 years at Bremen Elementary Middle School.

Following his retirement from Bremen in 2001, Mr. Cabiness served as an interim principal at several surrounding schools including North Judson School Corporation, South Bend Adams High School, Jackson Intermediate School, Jefferson Intermediate Traditional School, Marshall Intermediate School, Dickinson Intermediate School, and Darden Primary Center. Mr. Cabiness held many leadership roles in his career and community.

He was a past president of the Bremen Lion's Club and the Marshall County Habitat for Humanity. Lloyd was a member and district chair of the Indiana Association of Elementary School Principals and received the District Principal of the Year Award. He took great pride in receiving an "Above and Beyond" award from South Bend Community School Corporation. He held a variety of service and leadership roles at the Bremen Church of the Brethren, where he was a member. He also served on the Community Hospital of Bremen Foundation Board. His greatest joy in retirement was golfing at Sprig-O-Mint Golf Club.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Kathleen Cabiness of Bremen; a son Andy (Jessica) Cabiness of Jeffersonville; two daughters Melanie Cabiness of Goshen and Kealeen Griffin of Bremen; his beloved Scrappy; two grandchildren Ian Cabiness and Audra Cabiness of Jeffersonville; a brother Leland Cabiness of Conyers, Georgia; two sisters Julia (David) Wandrei of Logansport and Ruth (David) Lapio of Punta Gorda, Florida; and three nephews Ryan (Megan) Lebo, Scott (Shawn) Wandrei, and Mark (Sandy) Wandrei.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Brigitte Cabiness, wife of Leland. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11:00 am, followed by a lunch for all attending, at the Bremen Church of the Brethren. The service will be officiated by Pastor Mike Overpeck. Friends may call at the church from 4-8 on Friday, February 3, 2012. Memorial contributions may be made to Bremen Church of the Brethren Community Memorial Garden.
