SOUTH BEND - Jeanette (Howell) Davis, 57, was granted her angel wings on December 16, 2009, after a short battle with cancer. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. Jeanette was born July 17, 1952, and was a life-long resident of South Bend.

She graduated from John Adams High School and, after finishing high school, on September 5, 1970, married George Davis Sr. The couple later were divorced.

Jeanette worked for Project Head Start of St. Joseph and Elkhart Counties in the late 70s as a teacher's aide and a longtime employee for South Bend Controls Inc. As the life of every party, she loved fishing and spending time uplifting family and friends.

She was the youngest of four children of James and Mildred Howell, who preceded her in death, along with one sister, Lillie A Morris Harley, and granddaughter, Stacia Ayana SaBree Davis.

Survivors include one son, George L Davis Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Sandra; two grandsons, Jeffery and Jordan of Germany; one sister, Margaret Morris, and one brother, John B. Morris, both of South Bend; mother-in-law, Johnnye Gibbs; four sisters-in-law, Patricia L Liddell, Milwaukee, Wis., Marsha T. Dennis, Stone Mountan, Ga., Martha Ann Taylor, Grenada, Mississippi, and Idonnia Anderson of Vicksburg, Mississippi; three brothers-in-law, Adam C. Gibbs, Harrisburg, NC, John F Gibbs, Houston, TX, and Donald Joe Gibbs of South Bend who was her caregiver. She is further survived by a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.

Services for Ms. Jeanette (Howell) Davis will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at Alford's Mortuary, with burial following at Highland Cemetery. Viewing will take place at Alford's Mortuary chapel from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
