MISHAWAKA - Dominic J. "Nick" Matrino, 75, of Mishawaka, passed on after a long battle with illness. He was born to the late John and Albina(D'Ioia) Martino in Ripabottoni, Italy.

He came to America at the age of three, where he lived in South Bend. He married the former Janet L. Runnells who survives with their children, Michael J. Martino of Osceola, Jon E. Martino of Mishawaka, Perry J. Martino of Mishawaka and a granddaughter, Nicole of South Bend and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee.

Also surviving, he had two other sons, William Taylor and B.J. Baker, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Victor and Tony Martino and his sister, Josephine Thompson.

His surviving sister, Teresa (John) Warrington live in Las Vegas, Nevada and a brother, Peter (Lucille) Martino in Citrus Heights, California.

He graduated from John Adams High School and went into the Marine Corp until 1955. He served in the Korean Conflict.

He worked for the Troeger Sheet Metal Corporation for over 30 years and was a member of the Union Local # 20. He raced stock cars in the 60's for many years and hung out at the OC Club with his buddies. In the 70's, He had a little neighborhood tavern, Dominic's. He loved to camp and he was a jack of all trades. He was an awesome father and teacher. He always had a new joke for you. He also is survived by his caregiver and beloved friend, Tracy and her three grandchildren who will miss "Paw Paw" dearly.

A memorial service will be held at 6 pm Friday in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka. Friends will be received one hour prior to the services on Friday. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
