Thomas Arthur Jensen (1978)

Dear JAHS 1978 Classmates, Friends, Family, and Teachers,

I was very saddened to learn of Mr. John J. Schutz's passing in 2007 today.

Mr. Schutz was a SB Central classmate of my late father, Roy W. Jensen, Jr.

Mr. Schutz was a great History teacher. His lessons remain. Those of us who sat is his classroom remember how he took a classical approach to the nature of man, the strength of comparing and contrasting past events, and how the past repeats and impacts today's actions. His influence raised my appreciation for history in general.

After nearly 30 years of U.S. Navy cryptologic service, we retired in 2005 to Italy for a decade and I began my pursuit of a degree in History through UMUC in 2013. In 2014, we returned to the states, and settled here in Ardmore, Oklahoma. In December 2019, I finally attained that elusive B.A. (Magna Cum Laude) in History in 2019. In full retirement, I am a proud member of Convention of States Action Oklahoma (U.S. Constitution, Article V organization), serving as Legislative Liaison.

Each time I read anything of historical value, which is daily, Mr. J. J. Schutz's guidance, instruction, and patience in delivering history to his pupils are constant reminders of why we should value History as a device that touches us all, and teaches us all that the true nature of humans remains unchanged, and the Natural Law still applies.

I mourn his loss, and pray his family has solace in the knowledge God reunites us all in His kingdom. I hope this notes finds you all well, and that you remain contributing members of our great Republic.

Gratefully yours,

Tom Jensen
