Bruce R. Stickley, Sr.

March 6, 1937 - March 18, 2018

SOUTH BEND - Bruce R. Stickley, Sr., 81, of South Bend, passed away in his home on Sunday, March 18, sitting in his recliner listening to his police scanner, with his loving daughter Gloria by his side.

He was born in South Bend on March 6, 1937, to the late Richard A. and Calista (Wolfe) Stickley.

Bruce is survived by his daughter, Gloria Jeanne Stickley of South Bend; and his son, Bruce R. (Marsha) Stickley, Jr. of Cache, OK. Also surviving is Patricia J. Stickley, the mother of his two children, of South Bend; and his very close friends, Patsy and Len Fowler of Gwinn, MI.

He graduated from John Adams High School, Class of 1955.

Bruce joined the U.S. Navy in 1955 until 1963, where he served as a Presidential Ceremonial Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. He also retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 20 years of service where he was a trainer for the Search and Rescue Team.

He retired in 1982 from the South Bend Police Department as a Sgt., after 20 years of service. Bruce was in charge of security for the 1987 Olympic Pan Am Games in Michigan City, IN.

Bruce was a member of the South Bend Police F.O.P. Lodge #36, Lydick Lions Club, and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for 20 years.

Visitation for Bruce will be Saturday, March 24, from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” located at State Road 23/ West Ireland Road, South Bend. A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Don Neeley officiating. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.
