Mary M. Walsh (Peg), 94 years old, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023, in her home. Peg was born in Mishawaka on March 9, 1929, to Joseph and Anna Walsh. She lived in Mishawaka and South Bend her entire life.
She is a graduate of Mishawaka High School, received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Bloomington and her masters from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She taught at John Adams High School and was head of the Business Department when she retired.
Peg was a long-time parishioner at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church in South Bend.
She was an animal lover, and Gunnar has been her cherished companion for the past few years. She enjoyed playing cards and participating at family gatherings. She was always available for a whiffle ball game. Her knitting and needlepoint projects are treasured heirlooms for the family.
The family is grateful to her caretakers over the past few years, Anna, Kathy, Ashley and George.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James P. Walsh and William J. Walsh; and sisters, Rosemary P. Walsh and Jo Ann Wensits. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Theresa Freeman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am on Monday, July 24, 2023, at St. Anthony de Padua, 2310 E. Jefferson Blvd, South Bend, IN 46615 with visitation 1 hour prior in the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Peg Walsh may be made to Pet Refuge, 4626 S. Burnett Drive, South Bend, IN 46614.
