Edwin W. Johns, Sr

November 4, 1946 – January 5, 2024

Edwin W. Johns, Sr., 77, of South Bend, passed away peacefully in his home during the early morning hours of Friday, January 5th.

Ed was born in Decatur, Alabama on November 4, 1946 to William R. and Mary F. (Clanton) Johns. He attended John Adams High School and went on to serve proudly in the US Navy. After he was honorably discharged, he came home to marry the love of his life, Diane L. Kurzhal. She preceded him in death on January 24, 2019. Ed retired from the South Bend School Corp., where he was employed as a building engineer. He was an avid University of Alabama fan, “Roll Tide”. He enjoyed all sports, going fishing and cheering on his grandchildren in all their sporting events. His greatest joy was spending time with his loving family.

Ed is survived by his children, Edwin (Ann) Johns, Jr. of South Bend, Robin (Ron) Rupert of Mishawaka, Jodi (Sean) Rowell of South Bend and Matthew Johns of South Bend. He was the proud Papa of 12; Brittney, Justin, Jacob, Dakota, Jonah, Maggie, Tristin, Connor, Jolie, Landon, Aiden and Arianna and the great grandfather of 14. He is also survived by his sister, Janie (Rob) Jaronik of Granger, and Johnny and Clay Johns both of Mishawaka. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Bill, Bob and Jim.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, January 11th, from 4:00 until 8:00pm in the Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, 23421 SR 23, South Bend. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, January 12th, at 11:00am. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Sumption Prairie Cemetery of South Bend.
