Thomas Wayne Gammage, Sr

January 17, 1964 ~ April 15, 2024 (age 60)

With a heart full of love and eyes brimming with cherished memories, we mourn the loss of Thomas Wayne Gammage, Sr., affectionately known as "Tommy". Born on January 17, 1964, in South Bend, IN, he blessed the world with his warmth, charisma, and vivacious spirit for sixty years until his departure on April 15, 2024.

A man of impeccable character and infectious enthusiasm, Thomas's life was a testament to Maya Angelou's words, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Thomas was an integral part of The University Of Notre Dame's Grounds team for over 25 years, where he applied the same diligence, passion, and commitment that he portrayed in every aspect of his life. Outside of work, he found unparalleled joy in playing basketball, cooking, and listening to Al Green. His love for his family invariably shone through his actions and words, making every family gathering a delightful event to look forward to. A proud alumnus of Adams High School, Thomas's life was a beautiful blend of love, resilience, and joy that left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Linda Arias-Gammage, and sons, Thomas Jr. and Christian Gammage. His memory will also be carried forward by his stepsons, Jordan and Jovan, his brothers, Nyling Gammage Jr., Kevin Gammage, and his righthand man and brother Tony Gammage sisters, Sherry Bigsbee (Lawrence "Wiz" Whitmore") Melinda Jones, his favorite auntie Doncella Jones. Thomas held a special place in his heart for his goddaughter and niece, Tatiana Del Toro, and his special niece, Tyra Gammage. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nyling Gammage Sr. and Gwendolyn Harris, his sister, Barbara Gammage, his grandparents, Robert Sr, Abbie Jones, Robert Sr, Jessie Gammage, and his godfather Decatur Smith.

To celebrate Thomas's life, a visitation will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 2:00 pm EST at Alford's Mortuary, located at 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana, 46601. As we bid farewell to a man who touched countless lives, we encourage everyone to share their cherished memories of Thomas and upload photos to his memorial page.

His spirit will continue to live on in the stories we share and the love we carry in our hearts. As the poet Rumi beautifully said, "Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul, there is no such thing as separation."
