Cozy Lee "Jun Jun" Gathright, Jr

July 4, 1953 - June 3, 2024

Cozy "Jun Jun" was born to the union of Cozy and Mary Gathright. He completed his education with the South Bend Community School Corporation at of Adams High School, class of 1972, and his hard work and dedication saw him excel in his career. He spent over five years in assembly production at Honeywell, as well as another five years serving the community as part of the wait staff and banquets team at the Summit Club. Yet, despite his professional achievements, it was his role as a family man that Cozy held dearest. Married to Joyce Boney in 1972, and blessed with three children, Fredesta Boney, Cozy Lee Gathright III and Joy Gathright. Jun Jun enjoyed cooking, cleaning, dancing, and taking care of others. His life was a testament to the joy of simple pleasures: from the sizzle of Bar-B-Ques to hanging out amongst family and friends and playing cards.

Cozy is survived by his children, Fredesta Boney of Indianapolis, IN, Cozy (Pete) Lee Gathright III, and Joy Gathright (Kevin Taylor) of South Bend, IN; three grandchildren, Tai'Saan Harris, La'Saundra Beavers, and Ja'Saun Blount of Indianapolis IN; his brothers, Jesse and Charles Gathright both of South Bend, IN; his nephews, Jimmy, Shawn, Sheldon, and Corey; his nieces, Tanya, Keisha, Destiny, and Na-Na; his sisters-in-law, Penny Boney and Judy Rockett, and brothers-in-law, Jeff Boney and JC Barnes and he was also blessed to have nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cozy Sr. and Mary; his wife, Joyce; his sisters, Betty Clay and Mae Clare (Barnes) and his brother-in-law, Sonny Boney and nephew Jerome Barnes.

A service to celebrate the life of Cozy Gathright was held at Alford's Mortuary on Thursday, June 8th, 2024. Let us remember him as he was: full of life, full of love, and always ready with a joke to make us smile.
