SOUTH BEND — Mary Josephine Gaza DeVolder, 82, of North Fort Myers, FL, formerly of South Bend, passed away Saturday, January 6, in Cape Coral Rehab in Cape Coral, FL. Mary was born on April 2, 1924, in South Bend, as the daughter of John and Luella (Bargaron) Van Vynckt.Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and by three brothers, Eugene Van Vynckt Charles Van Vynckt and Richard Van Vynckt.

On October 29, 1949, in Mishawaka, Mary married Walter J.Gaza, who preceded her in death on July 26, 1994. On November 12, 1994, in Mishawaka, she married Camiel B.DeVolder, who preceded her on February 3, 2002.

Surviving Mary are her two sons, Walter J.(Trudy) Gaza Jr.of South Bend and Mark A. (Brenda) Gaza of Mattawan, MI; three stepdaughters, Linda A.(Albert) Biesbrouck of Osceola, Joan M.Harkins of Waynsville, MO, Patty S. (Wayne) Heflin of Nacogdoches, TX; a stepson, Ron D.(Pam) DeVolder of Springville, UT; two grandchildren, Betty (Kevin) Ruthkowski of South Bend and Matthew Gaza of Mattawan, MI; four step-grandchildren, four great- granddaughters and two step- great-grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret Stuff of Marcellus, MI, Joan (John) Jurek of South Bend, IN, Irene Marazita of Niles, MI, and Eleanor Van Vynckt of South Bend, IN; three brothers, Robert Van Vynckt of Mishawaka, John Van Vynckt of Hammond, IN, and Edward Van Vynckt of Central Valley, CA;and a stepniece, Janet (Dean) Stryker.

Mary attended Adams High School in South Bend. She worked at Bendix during WWII and then was a telephone operator for Indiana Bell for 37 years before she retired in 1983. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the South Bend Moose Ladies Auxiliary.

Family and friends may visit from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, January 10th, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W.8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m.on Thursday, January 11th, in St.Monica Catholic Church, with Rev.Jeffery Largent officiating. Burial will follow at St.Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mishawaka.
