John J. Drapek

SOUTH BEND - John J. Drapek, 71, of 2007 North Side Blvd., died at 10:30 a.m. Monday in his home of natural causes.

Mr. Drapek retired in 1985 from South Bend Community School Corp. as an English teacher at Adams High School. He was born March 14, 1923, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

On June 17, 1960, in Michigan City, he married Louise C. Norris. She survives, with two sisters, Dorothy Stoner of Lakeville and Sharron Harper; stepsister, Estelle McGonigal of Largo, Fla.; and two nieces and five nephews.

He was a graduate of Indiana University, was chaplain of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8748 and was a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, with military services conducted by VFW Post 8748. Friends in may call Kaniewski from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday Funeral Home, where a wake will be at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may made to Indiana University Foundation, P.O. Box 500, Bloomington, IN 47402.
