Gerald Duane Kline VIEW PROFILE

Gerald Duane Kline

June 7, 1939 ~ December 17, 2024 (age 85)

Gerald Duane Kline grew up on a farm outside Mishawaka, Indiana, where he spent his most delightful times at the helm of a stationary old convertible, his grandmother riding shotgun and a great many dogs in tow. On the farm he also enjoyed routine maritime adventures in a washtub with his imaginary friend Jemity Blahmer.

Jerry attended Mishawaka High School, where he met the love of his life, Martha Steele, a former Princess Mishawaka and great beauty, with whom he gladly spent the remainder of his days. Jerry and Martha were married shortly after graduation from Indiana University, where both excelled in English and Art, respectively.

Jerry enjoyed his privacy. He also quite enjoyed Euchre, badminton, flowers of all sorts, a cool vodka gimlet on a warm summer’s night, and far above all, a good book. He read voraciously, as literature was his religion.

The man is survived by his beloved wife Martha, among others. His grandson Sam loved to hear Jerry’s stories about arrowheads, curious rocks, territorial Billy goats, and the careful art of egg collection. Whereas granddaughter Emma preferred to regale Jerry with her own tales of secretive trips to Mexico, where she apparently maintains a private flat and enjoys clandestine chats with a blue fox named Cartel.

Jerry’s son Adam is so glad he’s now reunited with the many dogs of his life, including his Afghan hound Zanda. Adam also maintains hope that Jerry’s rekindled his friendship with Jemity Blahmer. (Though it’s possible Jemity never ever left his side, being imaginary and thusly invisible.)

Mr. Kline spent his entire storied career teaching all levels of English at John Adams High School, where it was often rumored that he modeled men’s underwear in catalogs. This, of course, is a preposterous notion. Or is it?

No services will be held at this time. Donations should be made to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.

Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel will be assisting the family with final arrangements.
