Thomas Olmstead - Class Of 1982 VIEW PROFILE

Thomas Olmstead, 19, of 1122 S. 28th St., died at 11:40 p.m. Friday from injuries he suffered Nov. 9 in a moped-car accident. Olmstead had been in St. Joseph's Medical Center since the accident. The accident occurred about 6:30 a.m. Nov. 9.

Olmstead reportedly was driving his moped north on Eddy and turned left at Jefferson in front of a car driven by Marjorie J. Humes, 39, of 1212 E. LaSalle, who was southbound on Eddy. Police said at the time that Mrs/ Humes applied her brakes but could not avoid striking the moped. Olmstead was pinned underneath the automobile for a short time.

Dr. Lawrence Curry, deputy coroner, ruled that Olmstead's death was the result of direct medical complications of his injuries in the accident. Olmstead was a former student John Adams High School.

Born Feb. 1, 1964, in South Bend, he was a lifetime resident of this area.

Surviving are his parents, David and Muriel Olmstead of South Bend; two sisters, Mrs. Bruce (Kathleen) Quick and Miss Susan K. Olmstead, both of South Bend; and three brothers, David M., Michael P. and William J., all of South Bend.

Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Hollis Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., with Rev. Edmund A. Peters, pastor of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
