Garner L. Marvin

September 27, 1927  -  May 13, 2005

Garner L. Marvin, 77, of Howe, passed away Friday May 13, 2005 at Parkview Hospital. Mr. Marvin was born on Sept. 14, 1927 in Aurora, IL to Albert Dewy and Jessie Beverly. Mr. Garner taught in the South Bend School Corporation from 1953-1988. He came to LaGrange County in 1988. He married Alice (King) Gage Marvin on January 22, 1994 in Howe, IN, she survives. He is also survived by a son Michael Marvin, MD of Canton, OH, a daughter Mrs. Gary (Karen) Barth of Walkerton, IN, 3 stepdaughters Mrs. Phillip (Kathy) Gallup of Ft. Wayne, IN, Mrs. Jon (Connie) Gochenaur of Granger, IN, and Mrs. Lou (Tracy) Carmellini, MD of West Chester, PA and a step-son Steven and LuAnn Gage of LaGrange, IN, 4 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, adoptive father Lester Marvin and a step-daughter Judith Keenan who died on August 14, 2002. He was a Word War II Navy Veteran, Past Post Commander of American Legion Post #215, a member of the Sturgis FOE #2614, Kendallville Elks Lodge #1194, and the Angola Moose Lodge #266. Mr. Marvin was also a graduate of Indiana University. Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday May 17, 2005 at the Frurip-May Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Protsman officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, where there will be Military Services conducted by American Legion Post #215. Visitation will be on Monday May 16 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial may be made to the Judith Gage Keenan Scholarship Fund c/o LaGrange County Community Foundation.
