James "Jim" Louis Wichlacz

James Louis Wichlacz, known lovingly as Jim, passed away on June 03, 2026, in South Bend, Indiana, at the age of 69.

Jim was born on January 28, 1957, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Sylvester and Emma (Nowicki) Wichlacz. He was part of the 1976 Class of South Bend John Adams High School and carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and family with him in all that he did. Jim served in the U.S. Army National Guard, a chapter of his life that reflected his sense of duty and commitment to others.

On April 4, 1975, in Mishawaka, Indiana, Jim married the love of his life, Christine (Colburn) Wichlacz, and together they built a life centered on devotion, strength, and family. Christine survives him and will forever cherish the many years they shared. Jim was a proud and loving father to Tanya (Bernard) Strickland-Wichlacz, Tracy Wilson, Timothy (Lynn) Wichlacz, and Todd (Ashley) Wichlacz  . He was also a devoted grandfather to Kali, Kaydin, Kyreese, Jaden, Evan, Tyler, Konner, Chevy, Kadaisa, Chylynn, Michael, Aubree, Savanna, Timmy, Skyela, and Heaven, and a loving great-grandfather to Kamari and Kyrien. His family was the center of his world, and he found great joy in being surrounded by those he loved.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Wichlacz; his mother, Emma (Nowicki) Wichlacz; and his sisters, Emma Walker and Carol Kissinger. He carried the memory of his loved ones with him throughout his life and remained a steady source of love and support for his family and friends.

Jim enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. He loved spending time on the St. Joseph River fishing, where he found peace and happiness in the quiet rhythm of the water. He also enjoyed going to county fairs and festivals, where he could take in the sights, sounds, and traditions of the community. Baseball games were another favorite pastime, and he appreciated the excitement and camaraderie that came with cheering on the sport he loved.

Those who knew Jim will remember him as a kind, dependable, and family-oriented man whose presence brought comfort and warmth to others. He will be remembered for his devotion to his wife, his pride in his children and grandchildren, and the many memories he created with those closest to him. His life was one of love, service, and enduring connection, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

The time to visit with the family will be on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A service will begin at Noon all being held at Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main St. Mishawaka, IN 46545. Procession to Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens will immediately follow the service.
