James Robert “Jim” Rist, age 65, passed away at his home in South Bend on November 21, 2023. Jim was born July 16, 1958, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Robert James and Shirley Ann (Schneider) Rist.  Following his high school graduation, Jim studied at Ivy Tech where he obtained his training as a welder.  He was employed for several years in the factories throughout the Michiana area before retiring due to health reasons.

Jim is survived by his three sons: Casey (Sarah) Rist, Cory (Liz) Rist and Chad (Katie) Rist, his mother Shirley Ann Rist and his grandchildren Dominic, Emma and Colin. Surviving as well are his brother, John Rist, his nieces Glory and Jennifer, and his nephew Robbie.  Jim was preceded in death by his father, Robert J. Rist, his siblings Jerome “Jerry” Rist and Ronda Wendt, and his nephew, Dalton Wendt.

There will be a private visitation for Jim’s immediate family.  Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home (formerly Goethals and Wells) has been entrusted with his care.

Jim loved spending time in the natural beauty of the Dunes at Lake Michigan, listening to the sound of waves crashing against the shore and feeling the warmth of the sand between his toes. He also loved camping and playing disc golf in the parks throughout the area. He was also a master of the grill, and loved cooking for his family and friends.  He will also be remembered for his love of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Kansas City Chiefs football teams.

An avid reader, Jim also enjoyed the quiet peace found in a good book or time spent watching a sci-fi movie. His love for his family, nature, and the simple pleasures in life will forever be etched in our hearts.
