You'd think that 40 years in the classroom would be enough, but I am still enjoying teaching public administration and probably will keep going another few years. I've enjoyed university positions in Ohio, Georgia, California, Alabama, and Arkansas. I was privileged to teach at the Clinton School of Public Service here in Little Rock. The Clinton School offers a master's degree in public service. Two outstanding guest lecturers in my classes were none other than Paul Levy and Al From, who added a definite JAHS flavor! Living in Little Rock has been a wonderful experience. It is a beautiful city of 200,000 that benefits from being on the Arkansas River and at the break between the Delta and the Ozark Highlands. Hence, the western reaches of the city climb into the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains. Now, these aren't very big mountains, but after growing up in northern Indiana, they seem big! As you remember, Little Rock natives would like to play down the city's history regarding race relations. LR Central High School was in the headlines during our freshman and sophomore years at Adams. We were generally aware of what went on here, but the LR Central High desegregation incident, national guard troops and all, really did change history. Today, Central is the best high school in the state by all usual measures and is integrated about 50-50. My excellent adventure has taken me to Miami University for degrees in political science and geography with Air Force service and four years of teaching in between before earning the doctorate in public administration at the Univ. of Georgia. Wouldn't you know it that my two years in Athens, GA, were the two coldest on record with piles of snow to make me homesick for South Bend!

School Story

Who can forget the pitched battles between Dorothy Pate and Warren Seaborg each fall over gymnasium space? Every year, we wound up practicing at McKinley or Perley while our glee club classmates enjoyed the Adams auditorium! Looking forward to seeing you all in August.

Any siblings?

I was always impressed whenever I read of David's notes on our web site. His contributions were significant, touching so many lives and making a better world. It is sad to see another Eagle has fallen. RIP.
