Andrea was born on January 13, 1943, in South Bend to the late Matthew & Antoinette (Pawlowski) Klosowski. On July 29, 2017, Andrea married Michael A. Irvine, he passed away on November 17, 2023. Andrea was also preceded in death by her 1st husband, John J. Peterson in 1991, her 2nd husband, Westley “Gene” Ruttan in 2009; her sister, Fernanda Waldman and her loving brother, Carl Kay.

Left to cherish the memory of Andrea are her children, Christine (Gill) Grohowski, and Roger Peterson; grandchildren, Julianne and Gavin Grohowski; devoted and beloved fur baby, Misty; step-children, Kristi (Tom) Eash, Tracey (Julian) Cephus, Michael (Gloria) Irvine; and many dear in-laws, nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.

Andrea graduated from John Adams High School class of 1961. She worked for St. John’s Business Machines until starting the Thompson Business Equipment Company with her husband, John. Andrea was a member of Polish Falcons of America. She held the position of financial secretary for 20 years and Silver Star Legion of Honor. Andrea worked for many years for St. Joseph Funeral Home and for Senior One Care for 7 years.

She loved to help others in any way she could. Her entire life was one of kindness and care and devotion to others from her siblings as a child, to her children, to her clients as a caretaker for seniors, and to her husband who recently passed away as he suffered through dementia. Through the years it extended to her many friends, family, her childrens’ friends, neighbors, coworkers, bowling friends, her high school group, or really anybody that she met that she got to know even slightly became someone she counted as a friend and her devotion to them would remain constant.

Andrea always had the ability to know just what people needed when they needed it. Most of the time she knew what people needed before they even knew that they needed it. If she had a bad day, you would not know it. She cared more about your day. She would share anything she had, and if she didn’t have it, she would provide it. Her driving force was to make someone’s day, or to make them more comfortable. It gave her such joy to make others happy. Her absence will be felt for many years to come.

Visitation will be 12:00 pm – 2:30 pm, with a funeral service beginning at 2:30 pm, followed by additional visitation from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Friday, December 8, 2023, in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN. God bless Andrea's family and friends as they mourn the loss of another John Adams shining star.  We spent the high school years sharing classes and 'hellos' in the hallways.  Share lots of memories, laugh and cry...I know you'll never forget.  Another Eagle, and a great lady, has flown into the clouds.  G

Peace to Andrea and her loved ones upon her passing. We grew up in the same neighborhood and I also knew her first husband John who was from the neighborhood.  She indeed was a person of character.
